The Ashwagandha in the Lakshmi Garden has been growing beautifully! Many of our clients ask us how to use the Ashwagandha leaves and root at home. Ashwagandha is most widely used in its root form. However, the leaves should not be throw away and have a multitude of benefits! We wanted to provide you with further information about how to use Ashwagandha in this article.
We often use the leaves topically for our clients experiencing joint pains, skin conditions or excessive swelling. In combination with other Ayurvedic Herbs, we create a lepana paste that is applied to the localized area.
You can take a few of the leaves, bruise them in the mortar and pestle, and steep in hot water then drink the tea. The plant is a wonderful herb used to calm the nervous system, improve muscle weakness and rejuvenate rasa, mamsa and shukra dhatus.
Ashwagandha powder is also frequently used. People even add it to their cooking, although we would suggest refraining from using it in baking to ensure its qualities are maintained. Based on the prescription from your Ayurvedic practitioner, the powder can be taken with milk and honey or in the form of a leyham, making a delicious drink to calm the nervous system!
