Karin is the director and founder of Lakshmi Ayurveda Academy in Perth, Australia, where she leads the development of the clinic and Ayurvedic training programs. 

Her international career as a healthcare professional has seen her work previously as a clinical nurse across a range of fields, including travel health medicine, flight and aviation medicine, emergency care, high-dependency care, and communicable disease prevention. Her extensive travels through Africa, the U.K., India, and Nepal enriched her clinical practice and deepened her desire to study Ayurvedic medicine.

Karin’s journey into Ayurveda began with a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and internship at Manipal University, where she graduated with honours. She then undertook her practicum at Alvas College in Moodbidri, Karnataka, under the expert guidance of Dr. Aithal, whose mentorship continues to be a cornerstone of her professional growth.

Karin had the opportunity to complete her practicum at Ayurcare, a private practice operated by Dr Gautham, a well-known Ayurvedic physician in Mangalore, Karnataka. An inspiration, a delight and a privilege to work with, Dr Gautham was an incredible source of information and guidance.

Karin travels to India frequently for professional development and to speak at Ayurvedic conferences. Karin regularly visits Dr Mahadevan’s Gurukulam in the beautiful area of Tamil Nadu. Dr Mahadevan has been an inspiration to Karin as a Guru of Ayurveda. He has provided Karin with years of support, teaching and guidance and is closely associated with Lakshmi Ayurveda Academy.

Karin also holds a deep respect for Dr. Gayathri Bhat, her professor of Prasoothi Tantra and Stree Roga, who has profoundly influenced her understanding of Ayurvedic gynecology and women’s health.

In addition to her Ayurvedic expertise, Karin is an accomplished infant massage instructor, integrating this practice into her Ayurvedic postpartum care. She has pursued intensive training in Nadi Vijnanam with Dr. Vasant Lad in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and completed a 350-hour ISHTA Yoga Teacher Training. Karin has also completed her advanced training in Marma Therapy with Dr. Shishir Prasad, a true master of Marma Chikitsa.

Karin is a professional member of both the Australasian Association of Ayurveda, where she previously served as the state representative for Western Australia, and the Australian Natural Therapists Association.

Karin leads the Panchakarma programs at Lakshmi Ayurveda and has completed her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. She has created student mentoring programs to teach, train and assess students of Ayurveda in both group and private settings.
