Hing is used in a small dose – one pinch over your meal will be enough.
Try this red lentil soup (suited for Vata, Pitta and Kapha constitution)
Ingredients:
1 cup organic red lentils
5 cups water
2 tsp of organic ghee
1tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp black mustard seeds
1 pinch of organic Hing
1 cloves garlic (optional)- finely chopped
5 curry leaves fresh or dried
1 small handful cilantro leaves chopped
1/2 tsp of organic turmeric powder
1 tsp of masala powder
salt for seasoning (optional)
Method of preparation:
Wash the red lentils, add 4 cup of water and bring to boil. Cook on medium heat, uncovered for 30 minutes. Stir the beans regularly to prevent sticking.
Add another cup of water and continue to cook for another 10 minutes or until the beans are tender. Set aside
Heat the ghee in a frying pan until medium hot, then add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and hing. In a moment when the seeds pop stir in the garlic and brown slightly.
Add the curry leaves, cilantro, turmeric and masala powder. Mix quickly.
Stir this spice mixture into the soup and add salt (avoid salt for Kapha and Pitta)
Add some more water depending on how thick you want the soup.
Bring to boil for 2 minutes and serve with basmati rice or chapatti
