    Ayurvedic Approach to Hay Fever

We had many clients complaining about hay fever symptoms this week.ย

The classical texts of Ayurveda explain hay fever in depth. Known as Pratishyaya in the Madhava Nidanam, treatment would depend on the unique characteristics of the individual client. In general, a few Ayurvedic tips for hay fever are as follows:

    • Neti Pot: Check out our previous YouTube video on how to perform Jala Neti.
    • Nasya Treatment: Add nasya to your morning routine. Anu Thailam is a great oil to use for hay fever but should be discussed with your practitioner prior to use.
    • Dhumapana: We can learn about the practice of Dhumapana in the classical Ayurvedic text, Ashtanga Hridaya Sutrasthana Ch. 21 ๐Ÿ“š
    • Different types of Dhumapana are mentioned: 1. Snigdha Dhuma - useful in Vata imbalance. 2. Madhya Dhuma - medium strength, useful in Vata and Kapha imbalances. Also known as Shamana Dhuma. 3. Teekshna Dhuma - strong, useful in Kapha imbalance. Also known as virechana Dhuma.ย
    • Ayurvedic herbs: Trikatu is made up of three spices - Ginger, black pepper and pippali. Trikatu has a pinasaghna effect, meaning it alleviates nasal congestion. It is also great for improving the digestive capacity and digesting AMA (digestive toxins).

The best hay fever treatment program would include first speaking with your Ayurvedic practitioner to determine which products would be most suitable for you. Booking is available via our bio.
