Thank you @erin and @anna for the Navratri gathering.
Today we are commencing the first day of celebrations for the Navratri festival. Navratri spans over 9 nights to honour the different forms of the divine feminine.
The first three days of Navratri are dedicated towards goddess Durga, day 4th to the 6th evokes goddess Lakshmi and the final three days of Navratri are devoted to goddess Saraswati and her three archetypes.
During the nine days of Navratri it is a tradition to wear different colours associated with each day of the festival.
Day 1 - Yellow (goddess Shailputri)
Day 2 - Green (Goddess Brahmacharini)
Day 3 - Grey (goddess Chandraghanta)
Day 4 - Orange (goddess Kushmanda)
Day 5 - White (goddess Skandmata)
Day 6 - Red (goddess Katyayini)
Day 7 - Blue (goddess Kalaratri)
Day 8 - Pink (goddess Mahagouri)
Day 9 - Purple (goddess Siddhidatri)
Today is day 1, which is the celebration and honouring for Goddess Shailputri, the daughter of the mountains.
Shailputri is an avatar of Durga and is also known as Parvati. Shailputri rides a bull carries a trident in her right hand, lotus in her left and has a crescent moon situated above her head. It is said to bring good luck to the individual who honours her on this first day of Navratri.
So what can you do today?
Offering flowers, garlands, foods and sweets. Setting our intention to strengthen our spiritual practice to attain the highest connection with the divine. It is also said that wearing orange or yellow on this day is beneficial.
It is also advised to have light and sattvic food or some people prefer to fasting this is also called “Upvaas” in sanskrit. Fasting can be so beneficial for physical detoxification and mental clarity. In Ayurveda it doesn’t always mean you can’t eat anything as there are different types of fasting.
Sattvic food during Navratri is recommended such as fruit, nuts, millet and coconut water.
We hope you will honour the divine feminine within and around you? Wearing your favourite clothing, lighting a candle surrounding yourself with the beauty of nature.
We wish you a beautiful day
We look forward to welcoming you at the Lakshmi clinic
