To be honest, we love an occasional mango lassi. So delicious and refreshing during this hot weather. However, from an Ayurvedic perspective, mango lassi is not suitable for most people.
As many of you will know, milk and yoghurts mixed with fruits is an improper food combination as mentioned in Ayurveda. However, if consumed within the right variables, it can be okay for limited consumption.
How to know whether a mango lassi will be beneficial for you? Ask yourself these questions before consuming:
Is it hot outside? Best to consume in warmer weather, around midday, when the agni is the strongest.
How is your digestion? Best not to consume if you are feeling sluggish, have slow digestion, and are feeling heavy.
Have you recently eaten? Best to consume between meals after you have digested your food. Do not consume with or immediately after a meal!
After reading this, if you feel a lassi may not be suitable for you, simply try a mango and mint blend. Blend together and enjoy at room temperature.
If you feel that your agni (digestive fire) is strong, try a simple mango lassi at home. Start by blending 1/4 cup of plain yoghurt with 3/4 cup water, 1/2 fresh mango, and a pinch of cardamom powder. Enjoy at room temperature.
There are so many benefits to consuming Mango. They are rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, fibre and flavonoids.
Make sure to eat ripe mangos, as green mangos can be even more heating and aggravate Pitta Dosha, especially in this hot weather
Remember, choosing seasonal fruits and veggies is always the way to go ✅
