Ayurvedic Basti - aka Enema Treatment

Today Karin is preparing for her client who is coming in to have basti treatment. There are two types; Niruha basti, which is an eliminating decoction enema and Anuvasana basti, which is an oil based enema. Generally the two basti’s are done in alteration to reach the deeper tissues of the body.

Our client today is coming in for a series of 3 basti treatments, for 3 days in a row. Her treatment program looks like this: Day 1 Anuvasana, Day 2 Niruha, Day 3 Anuvasana. Today is day 1 of her treatment program.

Basti treatment is often recommended for those experiencing arthritis, rheumatism, muscle spasm, sciatica, backache, joint pains, headaches, constipation, gynaecological disorders and infertility.

The treatment process starts with a short lower back massage followed by Nadi Sveda (localised sweating therapy) ~ this is useful for helping to open up the channels of the localised area. Lastly, the enema is administered. Ayurvedic enema is actually quite a pleasant and enjoyable experience!

If this treatment is something you feel may be of benefit to you, please feel free to reach out to the clinic for more information. Please note a consultation with one of our practitioners is required prior, to discuss if this is an appropriate or recommended treatment for you. Booking options are in our bio!
